Cupping – how does it work?

Cupping is a well-known healing method, which has been used many times in past centuries also in European culture. Cupping is a “draining procedure” that can eliminate pain according to diagnostic and therapeutic criteria. In the same way, disease-causing, bioclimatic factors – such as a cold or asthma – can be eliminated from the body.

The cupping glasses are placed on reflex zones – usually on the back – or on special acupuncture points. Initially, cupping achieves a local effect, the tissue is better supplied with blood and loosens. However, the effect goes far beyond this local effect, because meridians and biophysical reflex mechanisms transmit the therapeutic impulses to other parts of the body.

The energy state of the organs is raised, the vegetative functions regulate themselves, resistance and well-being increase.

For which complaints does cupping help?

Cupping is used for the local treatment of pain of the musculoskeletal system with muscular tension, myogelosis and painful connective tissue zones, as well as for the reflex treatment of complaints of deeper muscular and skeletal layers and internal organs. During cupping, blood accumulates more and more at the treated area, often resulting in a local haematoma (bruise).

Indications for cupping

  • neck, back or shoulder pain
  • Muscle tension and back pain
  • Common colds
  • Rheumatic complaints
  • Digestive disorders
